I suppose someday, in the near or far future the automobile will be solely run by electric power, or by some sort of fuel cell, thereby possibly changing the sound and feel of what we have today.

So today, small children are playing with their toy cars, mimicking the sound "Varoom! Varoom!" Errrrrrrr! Varoom!" as they speed down the walkway.
And today, drivers not only feel the thrill of a speedy ride but the sound and the feel of the engine; especially those of muscle cars. Or the vibrating sound of race cars on the speedway as they pass by.

So in the future, many years, possibly a 100 years from now, small children will never know that sound (except that from old films). They will be playing with their toy cars, possibly mimicking this sound; "Bizzzzzz". Hummmmmmmmmm. Bizzzzzzzzzzz". Or maybe just a light hum. Or no sound at all, but a simple "Whoosh!"
And tomorrow's drivers will not feel the thrill of a speedy ride, accompanied by the sound of a combustion engine; especially those of muscle cars (could the engine sound be reproduced synthetically?). Or not hear or feel the loud vibrating sound of race cars, passing by on the race track.

What they have never known, or experienced, they will never miss. If I lived up to that time, I just might miss the sound, feel, and the power, of the gas powered combustion engine.
