"Non Judgement Day Is Coming" /....The Eagle Tavern
I don't know why, but I thought this bumper sticker with this slogan, on the back of a truck, parked in front of the Eagle Tavern today was amusing. Sorta got me thinking. Or maybe I am missing the point. But if there is a God, and there is a so called a "Judgment Day.... then if he/she/it is so almighty and "Just", then won't he/she/it be "non-judgmental" on "that" particular day? The way we should ideally be, every day, with each other? This sticker, as one I saw as a young man in "The Haight" during the early 70's; "Always Question Authority", are the few that will always stick in my mind. What stickers have got you thinking? And which ones will you always remember?
Backtracking: With a very busy work week behind me, Friday was actually spent at home doing absolutely nothing, but cleaning house and laundry. Actually felt good. Saturday was my "sore morning day", but an accomplished day at the gym. My trainer was brutal. Had me pumping to the limit. But I was wondering why he kept saying "you can do it babe" , "one more lift babe". Babe? Hummmmm. Supposedly straight? Pooped and back home; showered and tidying the place in preparation for a nice and delightful visit from a friend from San Francisco that afternoon :-)
Later that evening I was to meet up with Carlos and Ho for some good Chinese food in the Castro. The Castro was packed. Nice weather always contributes to this. Waiting at 440, Ho never called or showed. So Carlos (my best friend of almost 17yrs) and I ended up eating at Ararat. Basically Turkish in flavor: the food was sumptuous. The sampler platter, of dolmades, meats, and humus, was yummy. And my entree of Lamb Shank was tender to the bone. The best I have had in a long time. I actually forgot how much I love Middle Eastern food; especially Greek, Turkish and Iranian. The men aren't bad either. Yum! I really recommend Ararat, if your in the mood for a change of taste to your palate.
After dinner, we "waddled" up to the Edge to look for Ho (not there),then 440 (not there) where a nice and humorous meeting with "Kitty Glamore" always brightens up the evening. Too full from the Middle Eastern fare, I passed on drinks (Yes! I did!). After a visit with a few patrons, I actually was home, by 10:00. Just too sleepy and full to deal with the bars and crowds.
Today, I did the gym, food shopping, and errands, before attacking the Eagle, for the Sunday Bust. It was of course packing up, with the sunny weather at hand. Fog, however was looming in the distance, and I knew, the temps would change soon. Eventually I made it to the Lone Star, met up with a few familiar faces. Caught up on news etc. Was looking forward to meet up with Byran and David from Oakland, but with this mornings' fire and on-ramp collapse at the Bay Bridge, they did not want to deal with the traffic mess at hand (will really be a mess for Monday's commute!) With only a thin tank top on, and the increasing chill in the air, it was time to go home for dinner.
It will be a busy week this week. Flying down to Palm Springs Friday night for the weekend. Will be meeting up with friends, and of course meeting new ones :-) :-)
