"The Trilogy" was once a good read
During my visit with Mom, in Roseville for Moms day, I actually was up very late Saturday night-Sunday morning, watching for the millionth time, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. And this was the uncut version too. Wow! Even watching it on TNT, not the big screen, with commercials, still made it worth the watch. What a great film. And so true to the Tolkien theme.
This reminded me of the time, when I think I was in 8th or 9th grade, when my older sister loaned me her English class required reading, "The Hobbit". That book certainly brought my thoughts and dreams to a new level. My friends thought I was odd, reading such a "kiddie" book. But they sure missed out on that one. I am not much for history. But on this one, I read, studied the maps, the lore, and history of Middle Earth. I read and reread the Trilogy at least 3 times, cover to cover. And sorry that years later, in school, we were not required to read this, but Canterbury Tales instead. But this book and the hit TV show Star Trek (I am dating myself) really had my imagination reeling(A side note: In the mid to late 60's I was so addicted to Star Trek, that when I baby sat the kids across the street, I would, while they were playing outside, set the clocks in their house one hour forward, to get them to bed earlier, so I could watch Star Trek alone and uninterrupted at 9pm).
I really need to sit down and read more. The computer (like what I am doing now, and the TV has really interrupted my quiet reading, and dream time.
The most recent read, (which I am embarrassed to say was last year), which I highly recommend is Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn. It is a lesson and thought of how, and what we need to learn, if our species, and the rest of life on Earth as we know it, is to survive. Not a religious, book, but pretty political. Actually I heard or read somewhere that the Regan Administration tried to have it banned from the schools due to its controversial subject. Although published in 1989, it is still fresh. It is a slow and odd start,,,, but once you get going,,,, it is a pretty good and easy read.
I need a good read. Any suggests???
