Oil spill flashback
As I was sitting in my living room watching CNN, I looked on the floor behind one of the living room chairs and noticed a duck coated in oil. I forgot about that. I made this in my first year of ceramic class, during my freshman year in high school, 1969. The class project was to create something with regards to the Santa Barbara Oil Spill. Although quite primitive, I thought it captured the sadness of the time. Of course any animal covered in oil can look primitive, or almost alien. I did, later on, achieve doing quite well in creating pots, vases, dishes, and salad bowls, with all different glazes, including Raku. And of course, a novelty at the time, was smoking pot with the teacher, behind the Kiln. Hey. It was the 60's!!
