Back to the grind stone/the weekend and week so far

Hello from warm and sunny Palm Springs!

(Top of the tram, Mt San Jacinto, 8500 ft above sea level)

1. Our four day trip to Palm Springs was fantastic, with a few nice things happening in our favor.

2. I had reserved the SUV earlier in the week. Thursday night, my pick up from Enterprise was over an hour late. The gal forgot her phone, and could not find my address.

3. Anyhow, due to that they were nice enough go give us 20% off of our 4 day lease.

4. Up and early we made the drive down, via Interstate 5, was the usual. Boring. We however decided to try crossing over, I-138 towards Palmdale, to I-15, to avoid the Friday night LA traffic. There was not much traffic going this route, but a good part of it was going on boulevards through towns, stop light after stop light :(

5. We made it down to PS by 4 pm, only to find out that our hotel room at the XTended Stay (nice place!), was canceled. Not by us but by them.

6. Apparently, there was a flood on the third floor, and rooms were water damaged, so they had to transfer guests to another hotel.

7. Free! They comped us! We got our nights free! Woo Hoo!

8. The Ramada Inn was not as nice, but nice enough for a free stay.

9. Plus we were just around the corner from Tucan's Bar.

10. After setting in, I drove them down Palm Canyon drive as far south as Rancho Mirage, to give, Ho and Carlos a lay of the land.

11. Then it was off to check out Arenas (Palm Springs version of the Castro).

12. Then it was off to Wang's, for happy hour. The bar was packed! Ran into Jim and his partner (can we say this was bit uncomfortable?).

13. Anyway after that, we went back to Arenas. Then ended the evening at Tucan's.

14. Being Pride weekend, we decided to park the car, and cab it as much as possible.

15. Lets just say our stay the first night, we all partied a bit too much. And we felt it the next morning!

16. After getting back to the room and changing for bed, Ho insisted that he wanted a hamburger. So Carlos, and I drove in search of something open at 3am. We ended up in Cathedral City, at an I-Hop. Carlos who had already changed for bed, and was driving my car, and walking into I-Hop with his pajama bottoms on. No one noticed, except for two cute straight dudes did on their way out.

17. They complemented Carlos on his PJ's, asked if we were gay, the proceeded to ask us on some advice on if he should move out of state to be with his girlfriend. LOL.

18. Carlos and I figured that he probably would of asked for something else. I think he was in the process of trying to pick us up! LOL

19. Anyway back to the room, Ho was happy, Mark was already passed out. And Carlos and I passed out asleep shortly after.

20. Saturday, was our day to go ATV'ing over the sand dunes, and take the Tram up to Mt San Jacinto.

21. The weather had changed from the mid 90's last week, to the mid 60's, and damn cold at night. With a mix of rain throughout the weekend too.

22. Seeing it was clear, before the next storm, and it was getting colder; and seeing we got a late start, we decided to take the tram and forgo the ATV this time.

23. Once to the top, it was heaven. Snow everywhere. Although I have done this several times in the past, I would not hesitate to do this often. The view to the desert floor, the trees, the trails, and the mountains is worth many a trip.

24. Once down, we later ventured back to town, to dinner at Matchbox for my birthday dinner (a week early). The food, and service was excellent!!!!!!

25. After, we ventured to the Tool Shed leather bar, then back to Arenas. The lines to the Arenas bars were incredibly long. Too long to wait in the cold. So we went to the SpurLine bar, a video bar which is much like the Midnight Sun (except they play a lot of Broadway tunes).

26. Seeing we were out late the night before, we were back to the hotel early. For the next day was the Pride Parade.

27. Up early we made it to town about 30 minutes after the parade had started.

28. Johnny Hedges (a resident, and once a DJ in SF, at Daddy's, Trocaderos, Club Universe, and Mezzanine), had invited us to his parade party, at an upstairs restaurant over looking the parade. Lots of familiar faces from SF were there, and many that had moved to PS from SF were there too! We had a nice time.

29. Later we made our way, through the pouring rain, to Tyler's for one of the best hamburgers I've ever had.

30. To end the evening, we ended up at the Barracks, for their weekly beer bust. Fun. And we of course ran into many people we knew.

31. Then we ended up at Tucan's to a very long line outside, but worth the wait. They had one of the hottest looking men in the crowd, and one of the best drag shows I have seen in years! FUN! FUN! FUN!

32. Up early on Monday, it was back to the road, to drive home. But this time through LA. The drive was beautiful, with the snow capped mountains, and clean clear air.

33. This was one of the best Palm Springs trips I have had in years. The only thing I did not do was go to the gym. Mark did however. He was up every morning by 7am, and off to Worlds Gym. The rest of the group just slept in :)

34. We were home by 5 pm. And I was exhausted. I had a quick dinner, and asleep by 10 pm

35. Today was, let's do everything the temp did not do last week, nor the weekend gal. I ended up spending most of the morning to early afternoon doing the 4 days of computer work they did not do, were unable to do, or just did not do.

36. Think tonight will be another to sleep early night.

One of my best vacation memories was taking the tram up to the top of the mountain when I visited PS. You mentioned something about ATVs? You can take an ATV to the top?

(my icon was taken at the tram station at the bottom of the mountain...)

It was certainly beautiful. The ATV's are located not far from I-10, off of the 111 (about 5 miles from town). They don't look too bad, but once on, the clime up the steep sandy hills can be changeling.
