1. On Saturday I decided it was time to clean turtle's tank.

2. Usually I let Chips wander around the apartment when I do.

3. Later on, as I was filling the tank with fresh water, I heard a thump in my bedroom.

4. Only to find turtle looking at itself in the mirror, and trying to walk toward itself. I think he was freaking out.

5. A few seconds later, he walked away, only to turn around walk up to the mirror and gaze at himself once more.

6. Unless the turtle sees somewhat of a reflection in his tank, I think, this may be the first time, in the 20 yrs I have owned him, that he has seen himself, and that I have seen him actually doing this! LOL

Most male turtles or tortoises I've owned, upon seeing themselves in a mirror, have decided that another male was horning in on their territory, and tried to ram and/or bite their reflection. Chips is pretty mellow and/or intelligent if he was able to walk away from his reflection. :)

That´s cute. My cat Sammy is watching himself at the mirrow in my bedroom very often. He doesn´t try to attack but just looks into the mirrow and one get the feeling he´s really loving what he sees, he trys to look as good as possible.. my cat is vain... maybe your turtel, too?

TRUE STORY.

A friend of ours brought over his unusually mellow chihuahua. We put him out on the patio with our California Desert Tortoise.

Both dog and tortoise were fascinated with each other, chasing each other around in circles, but for VERY different reasons.

The dog thought it was a game.

The tortoise, however, had a raging, dripping hardon.

It took me a good fifteen minutes to stop laughing long enough to explain to all concerned what was so funny.

I also suggested that perhaps the dog and tortoise shouldn't be allowed to nap together, lest we end up with a tortoise-raped chihuahua.
