Here we go again? Not funny.

This has hit the local news stations this morning, and several of you have already posted this. Is this something that we will scoff at again, and say, "Oh, it won't happen to me. Not a big deal."
I remember, in the early 80's when AIDS was just a whisper on ones lips. "Oh. Not us. It's happening on the East Coast. Everything will be fine. It will pass." Then there was the Hep scare in the bars. So now this. Shit! So now when I go out to the bars, or meet someone on line, now I have to worry about this? I can put a condom on my pee pee, but not on my body. So, is this "really" something to be concerned about? Is this too much news hype (we thought the early AIDS reports were too). Will it evolve to something worse? Or just pass with time. Again, this is more ammo for those fag bashers :(.
I almost give up. Lock myself in my home and never go out. Well not really. But this is annoying.

Sounds like if you haven't been on a lot of antibiotics it's less of a concern but ...

My dad almost died of a staph infection in a hospital (he was getting chemo and his immune system was shot). So, there is that too.

Not good news.

Yeah. A friend contracted it at the gym a few yrs ago! As for me, I lived on antibiotics as an adolescent (acne); and when coming out in 80's, my bf was carrying chlamydia in throat; so of course I got it; and on it a lot then (oy!- TMI) So over my life have been on and off biotics, for sinus infections, colds, NSU, the gamete, as most of us have been. But then again, if this strain mutates to something bigger, whether or not one has been on antibiotics maybe won't matter. Hummm. Wonder if the numbers will rise during IBR?

Many (most?) of the people having sex at IBR will be from out of town, which I'm guessing will offset the increased risk amongst SF locals. What's more disturbing is the thought that out of all those visitors a handful may end up carrying the bug home with them, where it may spread among the general population.

I also noted that the article mentions Boston as a second location where the bug has been spotted in the local gay population. Delightful. Mind you, thanks to the famous Bostonian gay attitude, my chances of getting laid at home are minimal to start with. I probably shouldn't be worried.

Yeah, that's what worries me. Sorta like the Flight Attendant in "And The Band Played On"; carrying it and spreading it everywhere. Not good.
Boston? Attitude? Girrrrrrrrl. I'm sure a cute man like you has no trouble, even in that town ;-)

From your mouth to the Flying Spaghetti Monsters... er... ears!

egads!

I noticed how they said to take a bath after sexual contact. I'm thinking that maybe BEFORE might be the better choice.

I have in the past required my hookups, er, dates, and me to also bathe before we start anything. And after too.

But how can a guy have some hot sweaty pig sex then? I don't want my man smelling like soap! I want his balls and ass and pits to smell like man!

SHIT!

[identity profile] cellboy.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it depends on the soap. For some reason, my Lever 2000 doesn't cover up totally. There is that hint of pit smell. You may have to have pig sex with your partner only..... or just call me (LOL) ;)

I've heard something about this.

How fucking scary. And I wanted to take my husband to SFO so he could experience the gay community there (plus some wild play fun!).

Well, hopefully, we can still have some fun. But guess try to be extra cautious, look for signs on the body etc. And shower a lot. But your right, "bummer".
