A reminder of mom (I feel bad)

1. Last night around 9 pm, I got a knock on my door.
2. I answered it, to find 4 very handsome SSF policemen at my door.
3. Looks like the elderly lady down the hall was not answering her phone.
4. So her nephew, also a SSF policeman called the police to check up on her, and if she had fallen in the apt, or tub as she did on Sunday night, and to take her to his place.
5. So I went to the office got the apt key, and opened the door. The chain latch was latched, so I had to force the door open, breaking the molding.
6. She was responding, that she was in the tub, and needed a blanket.
7. They covered her, the tub was empty of water.
8. She normally bathes in the morning before breakfast.
9. So it seems she has been in the tub for 10 hrs?!?!!
The paramedics showed up (yes all calendar hunks). They got here out, checked her vital signs, everything seemed OK, except for dehydration
1. They took her to the local hospital to hydrate her.
2. I had noticed since last week, that her speech is slurred a bit.
3. She is so cute. A petite Japanese woman, 87 yrs old, never married. She moved here after the SF quake of 1989; her apt in the Marina was totaled. She is very very active with volunteer work, always on the go, and takes public transit most of the time!
4. On my first day of work, 4 yrs ago, she brought to my office, a cucumber sandwich that tasted just like the ones mom made (yum). A nice welcome.
5. She took George and I out for sushi, for Christmas last year
Strange thing is that I had a dream about her on Sunday night, the night she fell down in the tub. A friend took her to the Dr on Monday, so I assumed either she stayed with the friend, or maybe came home. I called here yesterday, assuming she may of gotten back home, to see how she was doing, but she did not answer (she normally screens her calls). I was so busy yesterday, I did not even think to go up and check on her, thinking her friend would
6. Oops. I feel bad. So I got a key made to keep in my apt, and will call her often from now on.

Back to basics

Now that my training is during the week, I am now mostly free of the gym weekend mornings. So I am now thinking of doing, or going back to doing two things.

1. Most importantly; back to volunteering at the National Aids Memorial in Golden Gate Park. 10 yrs ago, I donated a brick (with the help of my friends), with my late partners name on it inscribed, in the Circle of Friends. Then I would on the once or twice a month schedule joining hundreds of others; high school children, parents, friends, corporate sponsors, in weeding, cleaning, planting the area. It was also a nice way to meet people. And very very therapeutic. Fall is on it's way, so things will probably need prepping for the winter. And my daily social activities may be slowing down as the rains approach. The last workshop is in October, but come spring the sechedule begins again. It's only once or twice a month anyway. And I live so much closer to this, than before. As a reward for our 3-4 hours of hard work we are treated to a delightful and very filling buffet lunch, under the beautiful trees of Golden Gate Park :)

2. I need to get back to some spiritual routine, either some meditation classes, or even going back to the MCC. It would keep me focused, and also a good way to meet new people.

For now though, since the last workshop is Oct 17th, I will go then, and return in the spring, so I think step 2 should be a try.
