1. Last night I got a call from the DA, telling me to be down at the court house in Redwood City, by 9 am to appear on the stand as witness to that domestic violence case that happened last May. I should be done by noon.
2. I was expecting this, and warned my GM that last week that this may happen. She said no need to get coverage (which is a chore in itself, especially at late notice).
3. So I email her, to get a return email, this morning, saying I should of gotten coverage. OY!
4. So I was up at 6am, and off to Redwood City by 7:45 am (I called my property manger friend in Pacifica to sort of check in with my maintenance guy, and maybe go over if she can)
5. So on my way down to Redwood City, on HWY 280, traveling at the flow of traffic, I change lanes from the fast lane (lane #1),to the lane next to it (lane #2). The car in front of me was about distance of 4-5 cars ahead of me.
6. I look down for one second to check my speed. I look up. Her tiny round brake lights are on. She is practically at a stop (this is the part of 280 near Black Mt Road that has a slope, and traffic tend to automatically speed up).
7. I put on my brakes, and skid into her rear bumper.
8. Crunch say's my car, and boom goes the air bags with white powder and smoke all around me. I called 911.
9. We moved over to the shoulder. Exchanged numbers, insurance companies. The CHP shows up (on bike).
10. Has us drive our cars to the Park and Ride. There, we exchanged more info.
11. Her car was barely bruised. My bumper, cracked and bent. But the hood and rest are fine ( I don't dare look under the hood, if there be any surprises. I've had enough surprises for the day thank you).
12. The officer was mean, and said I could not drive the car with the bag hanging out of the steering wheel. Find a friend to pick you up. I explained that I had to be in Redwood City in 30 minutes (10 miles south).
13. Later a CHP drove up in his car, got more info from me, and told me I could drive, just tuck the bag back in the wheel, but be careful
14. While waiting for reports to be made, I called the DA, told them I would be late. Called my property manger friend to call my GM. My GM was more concerned about my accident (is this considered a work related accident?)
15. So minutes later I drove off , and made it to Redwood City, only to wait till 12 noon, to find out the Direct took longer, and that I am to come back at 2:30pm. Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!
16. So I drove back home, called my insurance, had lunch, went to the office, and switched cars (thank god I did not sell the old one)
17. Back down to Redwood City, I got to testify on the stand (first time I've ever done that).
18. They played my 911 call. Asked me questions. The DA, asking me the questions very nice. The attorney representing the beating couple, was a huge bald, mean looking Daddy bear. Woof! (OK. After all I had been though, I had to get my mind off of today's happenings by distraction).
19. After all of this happening today, I was only on the witness stand for no more than 20-30 minutes.
20. I was back at work by 3pm to complete my day till 6pm (and actually showed some units, and may be getting a second application)
21. I went to the gym, did back and bicep exercises just to let off steam.
22. Although a bit down, I am not going to let this thing get to me. I think her car, and she is fine. I just have a bumper and steering wheel to deal with (I hope it's not to much to fix, and I hope my insurance does not go up)
23. No one was killed, I am still alive. I have lost lovers, parents and pets. So on the grand scheme of things, this is minimal.
24. Well. I'm still a little down. Wonder how I will feel tomorrow morning?
