I used to do this? So butch! I forgot all about this...

Years ago, one of my boyfriends' was into this. Sprint car racing. On Fridays he would rush down from his home in Sac, and we would go over to Fremont, CA to watch. He would meet up with friends. Bearish, straight friends, that supposedly did not know about him, or me (I butched it up as much as I could (lol). I initially kicked and screamed on my way there, but after time, I actually enjoyed going. Most of the Sprint car races were held in the Mid-West and South. Fremont, and some other track in SoCal were the few out West. The Fremont track sold for condo development yrs ago. I met some of the racers. Talk about hunks! And you think this is a redneck poor man's sport? Not really. Some of these men, with the help of their sponsors, made easily over 200K per yr. And that was over 15 yrs ago. I would like to see another race sometime. Damn I was so butch!

so i;m a nosey bitch. i decided to come look and almost melted over that. We ran rarely with WoO and mostly up at West Capitol and Chico before retiring from cars and going to snowmobile racing. Been out of that for a lot of years and still get all excited at the look and sound.

I miss that too. The smell, the hurling of small mud chunks from the tires (if you sit close to the track), and the sound. What I also like was the speed. Not fast like stock cars, but at an even pace. Fun to watch. I of course was a Steve Kinser fan :)

Are there any WoO races left in California??

Oh lord! Steve rules! He's 10 days older than me, made his first million before he turned 30.

I don't honestly know. Last one I went to was in Chico in 1989. I've only been back down a couple of times since. The were holding the Gold Cup there.

Ah. Google! Here is Steve's schedule. Looks like Watsonville (closest to me) and Chico are where he is. Australia is a bit too far :)

and this too! I may just go! Now who of my friend would want to go? They may look at me strangely (lol)

I'm drivable to Billings and the ones in WA and OR. Tempting, very tempting. I'm in the same boat, my friends'd think I'm nuts.

Too bad we are not living closer, we could go together :). I may just go on my own :)
