Someone on talk radio made a good comment yesterday. "No matter who wins the presidency, it would be nice if they would run the country from the middle. Not from the right, or the left. From the middle."
Nice thought. But don't think that would happen.

I think there are lessons to be learned from the Clinton administration. After trying to butt heads with the buttheads, Clinton saw that he couldn't follow a more "leftist" agenda. He was being shot down at every turn, starting with Hilary's health care agenda. So, he moved right a bit. Sought "common ground" with the Republicans. Co-opted their battle cries as his own - and did much.

"W" on the other hand, went right, believing his own press and taking up what he thought was the "Conservative" flag. And, even "W" has had to move a bit toward center.

But, his attitude that he can do no wrong, got the best of him and "poisoned the well". Everyone else said, "OK, you don't want our help? Fine. See what you can do without us." and, he lost the support of his own party.

I think Barack Obama can see this. He's a student of Political Science and pretty damn smart. I think he's going to build a consensus, and will lead from just a bit left of center.
