Facebook Sex Extortion Plot. 300 years?

The news wires say that he can get up to 300 yrs in prison. Charged with 12 felonies. It is a terrible crime. But 300 yrs? Is that excessive? And for his age? I'm torn on this one.

I don't understand how that can happen...

when people that kill sometimes get 15 or 30 years... and get off even before that..

Exactly. Maybe the 300 yrs guarantees no probation?
