Reno, Carson City, and a brief thought of my adoption
Saturday night, after dinner, I drove up to my sister and brother-in-law's home, to sleep, for a up early trek to Carson City, to have lunch with, and say goodbye to my 93 year old Aunt, who is moving to San Antonio, Texas, near her daughter next week.
1. Up early today, we had a filling breakfast at the local Granite Bay eatery (we decided to eat a hardy breakfast, for the Senior facility, where my Aunt lives, serve small portions)
2. My brother-in-law, Bill, decided to drive up Hwy 50, instead of 80. What a nice ride. I had not been to Tahoe that way in over 25 yrs. The road has not changed. Narrows as you drive down the steep grade towards Lake Tahoe in the distance.
3. What made the trip enjoyable were the fall colors of the Aspens, in their yellow leafed glory.
4. We arrived at my Aunts apt. My sister said she was a bit confused the day before on the phone. But at 93, that's expected. The visit was nice. She did not remember me at all, which was fine, and we all thought, especially my sister who had just seen her 5 months earlier, that she had changed, at least her long term memory had.
5. My aunt Germaine, to me, except for her small memory problems, had not changed at all. She said her health was in perfect order, but she is upset that she can't remember things. As the visit continued, she said she thinks she did remember me (lol), she was very cute about the whole thing. And I handled it well, reminding her of the times I spent as child, hanging out with her daughter Louise, in Menlo Park, or running in the woods and beach of their Lake Tahoe property, and the Almond Ranch she also owned in Arbuckle. I think that jarred her memory a bit.
6. She thought today was Saturday and we reminded her it was Sunday. She also did not reserve a table at the dining room. She later said she didn't for with the new management, she did not know the rules, and how. We think she just forgot :)
7. After the hour visit, we walked her to the dining room, and then said our goodbyes. We ate later in Reno.
8. What occurred to me the moment we walked in, was how much she looked like my grandmother (her mother). They could of been twins. And her speech, movements, were so much like her too. And a bit of my mom was there, and her other sisters too.
9. In an old post of my adoption, and finding my parents, as I've said before, I'm not loosing sleep over them not being interested, for I had the best adoptive parents ever. But after seeing my Aunt today, (the last of 2 remaining of my Mom's family (my Uncle is living in Santa Ana). As my sister and I discussed earlier, on our way up to Carson City, we, or I wonder from what parent, did I inherit most of my traits, and mannerisms. Are my birth sisters like me? Are we similar or very different?
10. I decided to email some photos (clean ones silly!), to the service that found my parents, in hopes they pass them on, to let them see who I am. That may be a start.
11. I find this all very interesting.
