Haven't been drilled in yrs

1. I just came back from the Dentist. Replaced an old silver filling with the newer non-silver white fillings. I hadn't had my teeth drilled in maybe 10 yrs. I forgot how irritating the sound is. Now I am dribbling coffee all over me; my mouth is still numb lol
2. I go back in a few weeks to replace 4 more.
3. Initially, the dentist said I should replace the silver due to possible leakage over the years into my bloodstream.
4. Today the other dentist (his wife or sister), said that there is controversy over that issue. Silver fillings have been around for over 100 years; it affects some but not most.
5. Most change it out for vanity purposes.
6. So I did it for nothing?
7. Oh well.
8. I'll still change out the rest, since my insurance covers it.

My mouth is full of silver amalgam fillings, all over 30 years old (I had lousy teeth as a kid). I've had a couple of dentists tell me that I should have them replaced, without much justification, at a cost of thousands of dollars. My mom is a retired dental assistant who taught me a lot, so I was confident in telling those dentists where to put their drills.

However, these are *OLD* fillings, and some of them are really deteriorating badly. One of them partially fell out a couple of weeks ago, and I had to have the remains of the filling removed and a crown done to make the tooth usable. At the same time the dentist replaced another deteriorating silver filling on an adjacent tooth that would have interfered with the crown.

He tells me that I'll need to have another three or four fillings replaced soon, but he sees no reason to change them all just for the sake of changing them.

or maybe we don't need to replace the fillings at all. They just need more $$ to purchase a new car... lol

It's not the silver per se. It's the mercury that's in them.

I know. Maybe that's why I'm getting more forgetful (lol)
