I just saw some Poutine on the Cooking Channel, and now want to try some again. I never ate it growing up. My mom was not keen on junk food. Except for the delicious french fries around the corner from my childhood home (to this day, I am still in heaven when I have a tasty order of fries). In fact don't know why, but my mom never heard of Poutine until we when back to Canada to visit several years ago. My cousins said I must try it. It was not the greatest, but not that bad either (the Poutine at Montreal and Sherbrooke Costco was awful of course! McDonald's was not so hot either). I did find one Poutine place in Sherbrooke that was not bad however. So guess I need to try it again. I know. "Clog a Vein!"

I checked a few places in SF. The Salt House, and Wayfare, but these are a bit pricey places to eat. Especially if they serve this type food as a starter. I just want to find a casual place, for an easy eat. Not too fancy, but good.

If anyone knows of good place for Poutine in the Bay Area, let me know!

I've found that diners are the best for such things.

The reason that your mom hadn't heard of poutine is that it's actually a fairly recent invention. It didn't really hit the big time in Quebec until the 80's.
