1. Friday night, it was the usual night out with the "Girls".

2. After a brief stay at 440, Tom, Lee, Jim and I ended up eating at Cafe Mystique. First time there, I thought the food pretty good, except for the gas it created hrs later :(

3. A few weeks ago, my cousin, the son, that I saw at his mother's memorial at their property at Lake Tahoe, emailed me last week, to see if we could meet for lunch, on Saturday. He was at the Hyatt Union Square, at a Muscular-Skeletal seminar all week (he graduated in Law from Berkeley, then later went back to school and switched his employment to Radiology). He and is wife currently live outside of Oklahoma City.

4. Anyway, during my youth he was an asshole; to me, my parents, his parents, and his sister. So we never got that close. His terrible two's and terrible teens seemed to go on forever. He was 5-6 yrs older than me. His sister an I were closer, then. Actually best friends. That fizzled over time. Their family were not that social, and always seemed to be private and kept their distance from relatives and other family members.

5. Anyway. What happened? As my sister said, it must of taken some big effort for cousin John to contact me, and suggest we meet. So we did. It was the second time we met in almost 40 yrs.

6. My 20 minute drive to SF, took almost over an hour. Why the hell would SF Public Utilities do construction on 4th, 5th, 6th, and Post Streets on a Saturday? Traffic was awful.e

7. Once I picked him up, we then went to the Mission District to Limon for lunch. The food was fantastic, the staff = cute, and the clientele even cuter.

8. Aside from cousin Paul speaking very slow (takes patience to listen to), we had a very good time. He was nice, very intelligent, and we had lots to talk about (Thank god I had a social sister, and mother to teach me how to be or try to be conversant when one has to). If not, we probably would of been staring at each other through lunch. But actually once I got him warmed up, he became quite chatty.

9. He and his sister have been into and teaching meditation for years, outer body experiences, plain levels one reaches after death, etc. This stuff has always interested me. So he promised he would send me a list of books to begin reading (which he did that night).

10. We then later ended back at Union Square, at GUMP'S. I probably have not been there in over 10 yrs. My mom and I used to make a stop there when I was a child, to look at the museum (no longer there since the remodel yrs ago, housed lots of Asian artifacts. Some for sale at incredible prices (like 500K and up)

11. Note: As a young kid, my mom and would take me up on the train to SF before Christmas, to Union Square, to window shop, and look at the huge tree at the City of Paris department store (so huge they decorated the tree with items as large a bicycles, and the fabulous toy shop on the top floor. Then go to Gump's, then end up at Blum's, for a fabulous banana split (they were huge!)

12. It's was nice going into an "upscale" store for a change. The staff, were nicely dressed, and very polite. And the items to browse at were wonderful. Some art ware from upcoming artists were incredible. Lalique was touring this month, with a display of their tables and glass panels. The tables started at a meager price of $80K, up to $120K. Quick! Where is my check book! LOL I have again verified my conclusion, that no matter what state our economy is in, there will always be those that are little effected by tight money (or those making lots of money off our bad economy). $120,000 K for anything, is peanuts to them. Unique, stuff, even at high prices will sell.

13. On the top floor, there was a section of Asian art and statuary for sale. Interestingly they had some clay figurines for sale from some dynasty. They were not displayed in secure cases but just placed in an open area on tables. One price, $110K. Open area security must be very good!

14. My cousin ended up purchasing a cute Nambe ice cream scoop that had a cow head as a handle.

15. After shopping we walked to my car, said our goodbyes. I hugged him goodbye. That caught him off guard :) He walked back to the hotel, and I drove home.

16. Sunday, was gym morning. Then to meet friends at the previous restaurant, The Corner, at 18th and Mission, for Mark's friend Joanne's, opening day, of Eggbeaters. Apparently her biscuits are so good, she is shipping some to France. A few months ago, the previous chef of "The Corner", stole $10K out of the safe, and left town, nowhere to be found. Later to find out, the chef was never formally trained. And also to find out that the chef was to get a 3 star rating out of 4 star, before his thievery was accomplished. Guess this gifted chef blew it. He would of probably been a great success.

17. After brunch, we went shopping in the Haight, then later to 440 for Furry Sunday.

18. I was home early. Monday a work day, and maintenance called in sick for Monday due to a bad hip (extra work for me)

19. Happy Monday and have a good week!
GUMP'S

The ancient Chinese figurine, in the center background, with left arm up is for sale for a mere $110K.

This Lalique table is the cheaper of the two. $80K.

This one is only $120,000. Yea. Only
