In the 1930's, this place was formally called the California Palace Meat Market, in South San Francisco. It continued serving the community way into the 1960's.

Today, this place is no longer a meat market, but is now Physique Manifique. It's the gym I go to. It could be construed as a "meat market but it's not. No, there are no saunas, steam rooms, rows of shower stalls, nor cute beefy towel boys at the front desk. Unlike Golds SOMA, or Golds Castro, it's not packed with beefy Colt model type men, ogling each other, nor is it cruisy. So it definitely is not a meat market in any sense :(
Well, actually this is a good thing. I think anyway. Here people come in and do their business, without getting or thinking of getting into people's "business", then leave.
Below is a typical Sunday or Saturday at the gym. This day, last Sunday, I was the only one there, except for the gal at the front desk.

Downstairs, there is the weight lifting room; and to the opposite side of the basement, a boxing ring. Equipment is not state of the art, as other gyms nearby, but it works. I dropped Bally's, a larger up to date style gym 2 years ago. I was tired of waiting for a machines to use, watching the young kids just sitting on equipment talking on cellphones, and tired of spending minutes searching for lost dumbbells that are never racked (24 Hr Fitness up the hill isn't any better). The clientele at Bally's SSF and SF provided more eye candy than at my current gym. But I like it this way. The owners of my gym keep it neat, pay attention to the clientele, and are always available to give advice.

Looks good and seems to be a nice place to work out. The gym I visit is much smaller but also a nice one, especial for people who need to work out because of health isuses. Unfortunately really no hot guys there...

Good to hear that the owners are always there to give adive. Something I missed at the gyms I visted before, too. It´s important to have someone you can ask if you need help or to tell you if you make something in the wrong way.

How often do you work out in a week? I go twice a week...

Yep. Small gyms are nice. I work out 4 days per week. Sometimes 5 :)

Wow, that´s very much. I really admire you for taking the time to work out that often!
