I'm thinking of buying a new iMac. Is it possible to transfer, migrate all from my lamp style, G4 power PC (cpu/processor) to an Intel based one (I have Tiger, OSX 10.4.11)?

All of a sudden I am now stuck at uploading any new software (Flash, etc). I have found various conflicting answers on this, ranging from not compatible to yes, if you use the Ethernet, to only being able to transfer some apps, not all, to just being able to transfer docs and data.

Or to just take it to the Apple Store and let them do it (oy! what they will see! LOL)

Here's the thing:

The short answer is: All your *files* (images, documents, etc) are fine, and you can bring them over. "Universal" applications can also be run just fine. Non-universal applications will not run at all, as any new machine you buy will be running Lion, which doesn't have the emulation layer to run PPC-only applications.

Thanks! That was quick! Looking at my System Profiler, out of the long list I have about 19 Universal apps. So I assume if I use the Migration Assistant (Universal) I can then select the Universal Apps, and docs, pics, etc to migrate, and Firefox too! (uh I just answered my question.. yes)

At the time, I should of gone with gut instinct and purchase the Intel base

Yeah, it's probably time to retire a Luxo iMac. There are probably updates for most of the software you're still using, or replacements.

I don´t have a Mac, I use Windows 7, I don´t have much problems so far, and I hope it will stay that way.
Whatever you decide to do, keeping your old computer or buying a new one, I wish you good luck.
Technology can often be a pain in ass... *sigh*
