Last night my visiting friend John Jones, [livejournal.com profile] rockyotter, and I ate at Cafe Mystique. He had a left over box of pasta with chicken strips. He offered the box of food to the homeless guy in front of Walgreen's. The guy refused it saying, " I don't eat meat." I said, "It's pasta. 3 chicken strips!". He said, "I don't eat meat." Welcome to San Francisco!!! We did eventually find another guy that wanted it. He also asked for a dollar, which I gave. :)

Welcomes to John Jones!

As it is said, "Beggars cannot be choosers." I actually hate that hardline stance, but I've been burned too many times in the past when I've given money to the homeless. I no longer do so unless I get that vibe that the person genuinely needs cash/coins. I usually offer food if I have any, or offer to buy a meal for them. I they refuse, I assume they're not really hungry and/or want money to support a habit.

Me too. I very rarely give money too (except for the lady in the wheel chair in front of the Lone Star. I like her). Food is always the best. Once on KGO talk radio they were saying that there is a King Pin in Marin County that has a van, gets some guys and gals, dresses them up to look homeless, drives them to SF, and places them on varies corners to collect money. He then takes a percentage. Apparently he was getting pretty rich! Who would of thought? It certainly ruins it for those that really need help.
