I was at the Apple Store yesterday looking at the nice, sleek iMacs. Wow! I really need to upgrade. And it seems from looking on Apple Support it's fairly easy to transfer my crap from the old computer to the new. And my current Firefox bookmarks too (I prefer Firefox over Safari).

The only thing is that in a few weeks a new iMac is coming out with a thinner screen without a DVD player? So??? Now what? Do I need to purchase another item to play my DVD's or burn some for the car? I think I will purchase the current model with the player included. Easier on desk space.

without a DVD player

Yeah, that's a total fuck-up on Apple's part. They get to drop optical drives in a rush to be the first to recognize the demise of physical media while saving bucks (for themselves) at the same time. You'll have to buy an external drive with the new iMac just to rip CDs or watch DVDs.

I have last year's iMac model and am quite happy to stay with it. The transfer of info from my older Mac was clean and simple via an ethernet cable.

I think part of the issue is that Apple wants you to store things on the internet or on Cloud, for a fee of course (they like the PC industry are getting more and more greedy). I'm always concerned about security and privacy issues (my porn!! LOL). No matter what someone says, even those that work in internet and server security, its only secure until someone figures out how to hack in (in due time one just might). Unless the cute salesperson can woo me into the newest model, where I have to use up more space for a DVD drive, I think I'll go for the current model which will be just fine. Maybe got the most memory possible (anything will be better than what I have now). But I will miss my baby. My first iMac :P
This will be a $$ sacrifice at the moment, but at least they finance.

I really do love the new iMac models, but it does suck that they come without a DVD player. I hate that these companies are forcing us to get rid of physical media. I have no interest in purchasing only digital copies of movies or books, etc. I still like my hard copies. Even having only digital copies of photos scares me. Where will all the memories be years from now? It's sad.
