Staying awake at the wake
Jan. 23rd, 2013 01:52 pmTonight I'm going to a Wake in support of a very nice family living next door. Their mother died at a good age of 92. Italian Catholic, tomorrows funeral involves a mass. Tonight its visitation, and a rosary. Unable to make it to the funeral due to work, I think I'll go to the rosary. I was raised Catholic but have not been to something or even done a rosary in years. Or probably most of my life! My mom and dad were devoted Catholics, but later became jaded with the politics and BS the Monsignor put them through. She/they continued to believe in God and such, but lost faith in the organization of the church. My sister, as my mom, did lots of fundraising for her church, but felt her trust was betrayed by her church as well.
For me, I tend to agree with my dad. The mess of the world could also be due to organized religions (ie Mind you're own business!) I'm spiritual. I believe in a higher power. Or something is out there. I still pray at times. And at other times I'm borderline agnostic.
Being at the rosary will be interesting tonight. I hope I can stay awake through the wake!
