1. Last year it was reported that a builder of the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge failed to disclose that a 19-foot section of concrete in the foundation of the span's signature tower had not hardened before it was tested. By keeping quiet about the problem, the builder prevented further examination or repair. Experts said the problem, combined with other construction and testing lapses by the California Department of Transportation and its contractors, raises new questions about the structural integrity of the bridge. 2. And now this week, questions are being raised about the 30 fractured bolts found on the new bay bridge structure. Caused by exposure to hydrogen, either by the manufacturing process, or by exposure to water, or other issues

4. We sometimes laugh at our parents and grandparents and their backward ways. But it was their generation that constructed 2 wonderful bridges; the Golden Gate Bridge (1937) and the Bay Bridge (1933), with as far as I can find out, without any structural construction problems at all. Yay them!

5. Our ancestors were pretty smart after all! :)
