The weekend and week so far
Feb. 13th, 2012 10:25 pm1. Friday I stayed in! I went to gym after work, did light cardio, and my usual Saturday routine (Bicep/Tricep).
2. Saturday, food shopping, laundry, then off to SF later on to meet friends at The Dancing Pig. This new eatery had just opened 2 days earlier. It is owned by the owner of Mix Bar. Needs some fine tuning, but the food was good! And the staff provided excellent service (I think they were not only hired for their competency, but also for their good looks!!!)
3. After dinner, we hung out for a bit in the neighborhood, but it was home pretty early for me. The Whitney news jarred me. Once home, I stayed up till 3 am watching CNN for news of her death
4. Sunday was a pretty emotional day for me. Not only hearing of Whitney's death, but today was the day to go see the AIDS Quilt at the old Tower Records building on Castro. It was suggested that I join the long line, to read a list of names, of those departed. The line was long, and seemed they had enough volunteers already. In all there are over 45,000 names, with the quilt project.
5. After walking around and viewing some of the quilts, it hit me. My eyes started welling up with tears. Memories of friends lost. My partner lost. The memories of confusion and fear in the 80's, all surfaced.
6. I chose not to volunteer. I don't think I could read more than 3 or 4 names without braking down, and blubbering through the list (as I blubbered at my Moms memorial).
7. All the hurt, that I had neatly tucked away in my subconscious, and hopefully tucked away forever, all surfaced yesterday.
8. My friend Patrick read a list of names, and ended mentioning his partner in crime. Afterward, he stood next to me, and started balling his eyes out. Then I started to cry.
9. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence were there to give a hug, hand out Kleenex, and lend an ear to listen to those that needed solace. Bless their hearts. There were a lot of red teary eyes in the room.
10. I'm glad I went. I had not seen the Quilt since the 80's. At that time, seeing the whole floor of Moscone Center filled with Quilts was heart wrenching. Mistake to go with my partner who had AIDS at the time. It was too much for him emotionally for him to view.
11. After, Patrick, Griff and I went to Harvey's for lunch, then later to meet up with friends at 440 and the Edge.
12. I was however home in time to watch most of the Grammys (I missed the first 45 minutes).
13. I slept lousy last night. Odd dreams, of subject matter I don't remember. I was up at 4 am, the back to sleep by 5 am. So today I'm pooped!
14. My calorie intake phone app (My Fitness Pal) is working pretty well. It is really not an exact science, but it is a great daily journal record of what I'm scarfing on daily. Friday, I was 92 calories over my goal. Saturday I was 10 under (the dinner and drinks did not help) and Sunday, thanks to eating lunch (I had to have the French Fries), I 211 calories in the red. But still lost 4 lbs for the week (gained a pound).
15. Light cardio tonight, and back on track to eating better. Tonight was Salmon (poached. And no rich sauces) and Asparagus, and Quinoa.
