The weekend and week so far
May. 2nd, 2012 11:29 pmMore photos of the Bare Chest Calendar Finals
1. Friday was the usual out the the boys night. But I really need to slow down on that. Being out too late, really screws up my getting up early on Saturdays.
2. And this time it did for sure. Our new weekend leasing consultant text-ed me Saturday morning, to say her leg (the knee that she fallen on a couple of weeks earlier) was completely numb. She was scared and went to emergency. So couldn't work.
3. Good thing I woke up an hour before the work hour to get this message. Scramble as I did, I made it to work on time, to put a full day in.
4. Our "fallen" person, had orthoscopic surgery on her tendons, under the cap a few years ago. But she is still having problems. The recommend knee surgery, a knee replacement, which she is avoiding.
5. So after a long day, I stayed in Saturday night. Sunday would be a busy day.
6. Friend Mark was asked to produce the Bare Chest Calendar event this year. So of course he asked his friends to help, which we did. Me and Ho were the Floor Managers. Helping with getting the lineup of announcers, performers, raffle ticket totals, and the
list of winners on time.
7. This contest has changed from a campy beauty contest (men in suits and heels??), to that of judging them on their want in serving the community, and being available for charitable events. It has taken a more serious tone. Raising funds, and being available, for these functions? In other words, if he is your husband or boyfriend, you may not see him much. And all of this is backed, supported, by Miller Brewing Co!
8. Last year, the 2012 Calendar Men raised over $500,000. This season, during the two months, prior to Sunday night's final results, the 16 finalists raised over $16,000 selling raffle tickets.
7. BCC event was held at the DNA Lounge, on 11th Street. I had never been there, or at least I thought I hadn't. At least when it was the DNA.
8. After about an hour of being upstairs, looking down, I had just realized I had been here. This was the Chaps Bar! I first went to this bar, with my first boyfriend, in 1984. The year I came out. Man that was a long time ago!
9. Then, being new at all of it, it, as was the Powerhouse, was a bit scary. Dark, Goth type music, and men in full leather everywhere.
10. So the night went smoothly. Our friend Cody won (we knew he would). After stage take down, and a bit of cleaning, I was home by 9 pm. An asleep by 10!
11. Monday was, our first day of the 3 day toilet replacement program in my building. The California Water Dept is exchanging all our toilets (126 of them), to newer, more efficient ones. Free! The only charge was changing the angle stops. Which is still a deal.
12. So far the first two days have gone smoothly. The crew of 6 are really organized. Each wing (we have 3) consisting of 33 units, took about 7 hrs to complete.
13. That, and with rents coming in, and 2 move-ins, has made it a busy 2 days.
14. Tomorrow is the last day for toilet installations. Also our new GM will be coming by to meet us. Arg! The property is not looking as good as it should. The cold fog, and wind whipped up everything these last 2 days. Cold!!!!! Where is the warm Spring?
15. The new toilets are water conserving (our originals are 40 yrs old), and flush fast. Apparently the system uses air to assist in the flush.
16. The only odd thing is the flush button on the top. It is more of a stretch to flush while sitting. I can to it, but now have to avoid knocking the stuff off the tank.
