cellboy: (So heavy)

Gym manners

Last night I went to my large commercial gym, to strictly work on the leg press, and other leg exercises. Leg presses were a priority. What did I find? A waiting line! One guy on the machine with 2 waiting. The last guy had 4 people (wife and kids). Just taking their time, and turns, and I think hogging. Although the guy with massive legs pressed 845+ lbs. I really think, that spending your time in that corner for over 30 minutes is a bit excessive. Others were waiting. Shouldn't there be a time limit? Or at least some consideration? I usually tell one waiting that I have 1 or 2 sets left as a courtesy. Or at least try to hurry it up.
Initially I thought of walking out and going to my Old Style gym, which even though a small gym, no waiting! I would of lost 10-15 minutes driving. I should of done that anyway.
So I did other machines instead. But my priorities were nixed. I hate it when there are 3+ people sharing a machine. You wait forever.

At my gym, there is generally a rush before work, then in the afternoons until dometime around the dinner hour. Plan accordingly and you aren't at the whim of the other members.

I usually go at 6 am, no problem. This was at 7 pm which is usually not bad. But membership has increased. And of course timing. The other gym, may be the best bet most times

845?? that's it?? Hell, I did more than that on my first day back doing legs after not doing them for about a year (I had an injury). =P

As for gym etiquette, yeah, he was "hogging" the machine. However, if no one actually said "hey, can I work in with you", then it's kinda their own fault. I lift heavy. REALLY heavy, so I often take more than a minute between sets. I know some people are sometimes waiting to use the machine, and I *always* allow them to work in, because they shouldn't have to wait for what may be upwards of 30 minutes for my arse to finish. However, if they're being aloof, and they don't come up to me, I don't ask them, and they can wait forever. I'm not psychic, you've got to tell me what you want.

Working in with the person always works for me; but that was a bit intimidating with 4 other family members taking turns. Well, he was pressing 845 when I was waiting, but later I saw him trying to add 4 more plates on top somehow, since the bar was full (9 plates on each side). Well I hope to get to that point (845+) in the next few months. It sure takes time (I'm too impatient (and so is my back)). But will go to the old gym instead (less hectic). I need to post some pics of the old machines. Looks like something from a Frankenstein movie (lol)
