Dear Lazy Web

1. I was told to hold off on quitting my Sprint cell phone account (been with them for centuries). Hold off on getting the Instinct(suppose to be better than iPhone)
2. I was told Sprint is selling all of it's cellphone towers
3. They are in the process of converting the cell phone system into Broadband
4. I was told Broadband is better. That it will be phenomenal
5. So is Sprint doing this?
6. Is Broadband better? What's the difference?

Hahahahahahahahaha! The instinct?? better than the iPhone?!

That's like saying the Razr is better than the iPhone. as they're about as similar.

Anyway, sprint is moving to their 4G network. They have it up and running in a testbed in PDX. They're going to roll it out nationwide as soon as they can. However, with the economic downturn, that may take awhile. Also, the only thing that works on the system is their own laptop data card. Phones for LTE/WiMAX (the competing 4G standards) aren't widely available as yet.

"Broadband" is a meaningless term. As I sated above, they're moving to the new 4G standard, which will be faster than 3G, which was faster than 2G/EDGE. With 4G, you'll actually have bandwidth similar to a home DSL line (or better). The only issue being a higher latency (online twitch games will probably suffer).

Why would you want to ditch Sprint? What would going to another carrier give you? If it'll get you a better deal, go for it. You can always go back if you don't like the new carrier. It's not like they won't accept your money.

Wow! Thanks Mr. info :) Well, Sprint was or is in Chap 11, and loosing 4M customers/sec (exaggeration). They lost Comcast as a customer, so that may be part of it. So was holding out to see if the Co will fold or not. As for Instinct better than the iPhone, just a few more bells and whistles http://www.instinctthephone.com/?dl=video/vs&id12=UHP_Masthead_120808_intinct3G
I love Sprint. At least here, dropped calls are practically nill. I have such a good deal now (since an old time customer) hate to switch.

About the videos, yeah, um, no. The new 3G has a real GPS unit in it (unlike my iphone, 1st gen), and *nothing* is better than the App Store. The applications in the app store allow for everything else they talk about, and they do it better.

I'm not saying the iphone is perfect (FAAAAAR from it), but it *is* the best thing out there, if you're looking for a device that is an all-around personal internet appliance that also makes phone calls. Multitouch alone makes it infinitely better from a human-computer interaction standpoint.

Keep in mind, your phone will still work, if they go belly-up. I'd stay stick with them, unless you have an OMG SUPER GREAT need to move carriers.

Take it from another geek, Christopher is right. The iPhone is far from perfect, but it's the best of the bunch right now, no matter what a spec sheet might say.
