OK. The "Organics" brand of foods (Safeway/Von's) is quite good.
1. The Organics Soy Milk. Product of Canada. (The best I have tasted too).
2. Organics Cereals. Product of Canada.
3. Frozen Wild Blueberries. Product of Canada. The bag states that they are from the mountains of Quebec.
4. So. Where does all the organically grown California foods go? Canada? (lol) :)
5. Back to my blueberries and milk :)

California organic products are certainly available at Safeway and other stores north of the border at prices under those charged in San Francisco..That's city living for you. However you can often buy Canadian blueberries cheaper in California than where they are grown in Canada. Maple syrup too! That's the "market" I guess.

That's so true. Best organics I find are usually at the Saturday outdoor produce/flea markets. Gads. Last time I was in Canada (a long time ago) the maple syrup was so cheap, I had some shipped back :)

Pure maple syrup has become quite expensive the past couple of years. Seems a combination of acid rain and climate change is stressing out the maple trees and reducing production in Quebec and Ontario. As a Xmas present I got a bottle of "Single Press"- vintage 2007. Rather like a single malt scotch, I guess. It's bottled on the farm and is only filtered once, which apparently results in a higher concentration of minerals and nutrients. From St. Robert Bellarmine PQ, which is so small I can't find it on any maps. Perhaps it''s near Sherbrooke? Anyway, it will be real yummy on my desserts! [not so] anonymous

Yum! I vaguely remember when living in Sherbrooke, my family and friends going on sugaring offs. Where we all gather on horse drawn sleighs (I think the adults were drunk as the night went on) to the site, where they tap the trees, heat the syrup, then pour over a bucket of snow and eat. The combination of the hardened syrup, and snow is just divine to the pallet. We would do the same at home, by heating the syrup on the stove and pour on snow. I miss that :(.
