Top Chef Commercial...safety??

During last nights episode of Top Chef, there was a Glad Bag microwave steaming bag commercial.
How safe are these bags? I know so many that use the plastic bags for microwave heating.
I still use Pyrex glass containers, or a microwavable dish with plate to cover when microwaving.
The cancer thing you know. Sure in a few yrs the FDA will discover some new carcinogen created when microwaving with plastics.

I try really hard not to use any plastics in the microwave if I can help it. I have actually tried to steer away from all plastics period where able. I did a lot of research on it and plastics for food just isn't a very good idea. Food will leach the chemicals from the plastics. Your best bet is to stick with glass when ever possible.

That's what I think. I love Pryex. Best thing to cook with. I usually grab the old stuff at garage/yard/estate sales. Corning wear is my second fav.

My late partner had a stall at an antique shop, plus his normal job with family business at the Flower Market. He did quite well. His delight was Victrolas, talking machines, stuff like that (over 200 of them. OY! Plus all the other stuff that goes with business. So sales we did, and attended. And furniture we lifted and moved(ouch). We did it all :o)

Plastics vary in their tendency to leach into food. I wouldn't use most cling films in a microwave, for instance; they aren't designed for it. Oven bags are intended for that environment, though; I think they're probably safe.

With that said, I think Pyrex and other glassware is a much better choice... excellent for cooking, and environmentally more appropriate, since it's usually re-used and it's not made out of increasingly-scarce oil.
