Anyone remember this?

On Sundays, this was the place to end the evening. The I-Beam Tea Dance. Packed to the rafters with eye candy everywhere. In the front of the dance floor, was a stage, open to all to dance on, and of course, fabulous fan and banner dancers were strutting their stuff on stage too.
Free Tickets were occasionally given out at on Sunday afternoons at various venues. So on a Sunday evenings after the Eagle beer bust it was off to the I-Beam. Later on, I continued going with my newly met first BF. He lived in the Haight, so it made it even more convenient.

In the mid 80's me an my first boyfriend spent the weekend up at the Russian River. While walking on the sidewalk, we spotted two very handsome(incredibly handsome) men eating at an outdoor restaurant. It was Al Parker. During my coming out in the 80's he was my favorite porn star. I boldly walked up to he and his BF, and talked a bit, and asked for his autograph. He was very nice. Fumbling, I searched my wallet for something to write on. It was the I Beam ticket. Cordially, he signed his name, and said thank you. Of course all day that day I was ecstatic. Especially later on, when I saw both of them around town. Slurp!

Thanks for sharing dear Rick. That´s wonderful, thanks for telling your story. You really had great luck. People who likes him today will never get a chance to meet him.. :-(

The I-Beam is where I was thrown out of the men's room during a Halloween party because I was dressed in drag (no facial hair) and I was mistaken for a Real Girl. Whoops.

I had the privilege of meeting Al Parker at a Leather Master event to publicize a new video he'd produced. I was amused to find that he was really, really short, and pleased to find that not only was he as handsome in person as on film (more so in person, actually), but he was one of the sweetest and shyest guys I've ever talked to. Genuinely warm and friendly. I wish I could have known him better, and not just because of his dick.

He was short? I was watching a clip of him with Mike Davis today, and I thought he had very long legs, therefore I can´t imagine that he was short. But then, it´s different to see someone on the screen and in real life. Thank you all for telling about meeting Al and how nice this guy was, that pleases me to hear. :-)

Drag? Kicked out? You must of done a great job on the makeup and all. Yeah, from what I remember he was short. And shy. I googled his photo, and there is one with him in long hair (looks good), and his dick. I forgot how thick it was :). For some reason, I don't have any of his videos anymore. Must of lost them, or tossed them in my many moves :(

I went as Margaret Dumont to a friend's Groucho Marx. It's the only time I've ever done drag.

It took FOUR of us to get me prepped and ready. I looked fabulous, but it was too damn much work to ever want to repeat the experience again.

I loved the I-Beam, but it was the concerts there that I recall with the most fondness: Clan of Xymox, Erasure, the Heartthrobs and too many others. The other venue that had some memorable shows was the Kabui: Soft Cell, the first US tour of Eurythmics, Romeo Void...

I read his biography ten years ago, made me wish I'd known him.
