1. Last night, after work, I did a quick planting of my Spring annuals. Impatiens, Begonias, and Violets

2. Out in the cold wind till about 8 pm, I pretty much have it done. I just need to add, or replace the Violets (once they croak) with Lobelia.

3. Doesn't look like much at the moment, but once the plants grow and spread out 10 to 20 times their size, I'll rearrange.

4. I also tossed out the old Rosemary tree, and replanted my Christmas Tree shaped Rosemary, that I had indoors for the holidays, in it's place.

5. We are expecting mid 70's to mid 80's by Thursday, and possible rain on the weekend that should help these get along pretty well. Plus a good time for Turtle to sunbathe :)

6. My balcony is pretty long, with other large potted plants scattered along the length. 60% less stuff than I used to have on my Redwood City balcony. It was too much! It took me 1-2 hrs to water!

In the late 60's, my Great Aunt gave me her then "Bible of flowers", the Sunset Flower Garden Book, a 1947 second edition. I still use it most, in conjunction with the newer Sunset Western Garden book.

I especially like the planting/bloom calendar that my current Sunset book does not have.

The renderings of the plants is not that great though (so I refer to my current Sunset book, with better drawings, and color photos).

I still have Mother's book, looks like the same edition.
I so love geraniums, can't have them inside anymore. Stupid cats eat them and then we have to have kitty stomachs pumped (who knew they'd poison cats?)

Now that you have a nice balcony, you can have some geraniums and other plants outside, away from the cats :)

Looks great and I love your Jade plant. I had a huge one in the ground on the side of our house when we lived in S. California. We trimmed it in a very dramatic shape and I really liked it.

Jades are one of my favorite plants. This 4 foot plant, was started from a cutting from the same great aunt's garden in Los Altos, CA. So guess this makes it almost 50 yrs old! It has followed me where ever I have moved (if I ever move to Palm Springs, I hope it would survive, even with protection)

We also had a small one in Phoenix, but inside the house. Much too hot to survive outside.

Your balcony looks wonderful. I hope you´ll post a pic when the flowers have grown. :-)

Interesting book, great that you still use it.
