I got the free 12 month issue of Muscle and Fitness. Most of the issues just sat there. But have now started reading the back issues. Some odd articles, but very good stuff too.
1. One article states that "Edging" (or pre Edging) oneself is good before working out. Builds up the testosterone, so you have more energy before working out. Hummm. I have tried it. But sometimes I can't stop. Finish off, then just want to sleep! Then forget going to the gym! LOL!
2. Sometimes when doing leg presses, lying leg curls or extensions, my nuts are shifting all over the place. Making it very uncomfortable. Guess I need to get a jock strap, instead of wearing briefs or boxers. One article states that the reason one testicle is larger than the other is so men can sit and walk more comfortably. Working out would be a pain if they weren't different sizes. Hummm. Not sure about that, but here is some thoughts on it. I suppose if they were equal, we would be tugging them more often when sitting or moving around!

3. Eat Like a Caveman. Forget Oatmeal and Brown Rice. The Paleo Diet is back! Get back to the proteins that work best. Eat the way were were designed for. Lean beef, chicken, and fish (reasonable portions size of course). Back to the diet of when we were hunters and gatherers, with less grains, refined sugars, starch, bread, processed carbs, etc.) than in the modern, western diet. And we can still loose weight, lean out, and tone up by doing this diet. There is controversy about this idea. Many think that like all other species, man has evolved quickly since the advent of farming to adapt to new foods. However, there have been benefits to this diet, such as health improvements in people with autoimmune diseases.
I'm not going to change the way I eat. But just try to be careful what I eat (but rewarding oneself periodically with decadent food). Like my morning oatmeal. Will slow down on the bread intake. And need to slow down on the potato chips! Yum! In any case, I suppose, like Mom once said, eat in moderation. And watch the portion size.
4. Mixing Carbs with Saturated Fats can actually cause some hormonal changes to the body and increase your fat gain? Studies show that mixing carbs with saturated fats can actually cause the insulin receptor cells on the muscle, to be resistant to insulin's effects, causing the insulin to store the blood sugar as body fat. This is not an issue if you eat the two separately. If you separate the consumption of saturated fats and Carbohydrates, the muscle receptors will be sensitive to insulin, and will uptake the glucose. You'll recover faster from the last workout, and minimizing body fat.
5. Well off to eat my Oatmeal. Toast. Eggs (1 yolk, 3 whites), and my turkey bacon. And a few cups of strong coffee to wake me up! YUM!
