Diabetic Faint

1. One of our residents, who has Type 2 diabetes, fainted in the common hallway outside of his apt door this morning.

2. One of the neighboring tenants came down to the office to tell me. We went up stairs, and helped him back into his apt, and called 911.

3. Poor guy. His glucose levels were a mess.

4. The SSFFD arrived with in minutes (they are just a block away). All 4 men knew him by name (they were at his place recently). And since he grew up in this town and lived with his diabetic mother for 60 yrs, all know him very well, and his past address also (they test his memory after injection of insulin).

5. His apt is a mess and smells awful. And his hygiene awful. After helping him in, I had to go home and, change my smelly clothes, shower, put new clothes on, then put the smelly clothes (newly laundered this morning) back to be washed again. His bad order is not from ketoacidosis (that usually is a sweet smell). It's from bad hygiene. Yuk! After showering and washing my hands several times, that awful smell is still there a little (probably some in my sinuses).

6. He lives alone with his dog. He really needs a Life Alert button around his neck, or at least someone taking care of him (he is stubborn)

7. But here is good news to distract me from all of this. All of the fire men, that arrived were nice looking (sometimes one in the crowd isn't). OK not nice but hot! One 6'6" solid bear, with furry solid forearms asked my name. Swoon......I was ready to faint too! LOL

8. Then minutes later the Paramedics showed up. All 4 of them were hot too! Swoon again!

9. Now if any of them posted something about our meeting on Craig's List, missed connections, I would really faint!(Don't fret. I'll be checking that site for a few days ;)

I think the first 2 on the the right and the end one on the left were here. Hard to tell :(

He may have some cognitive issues as well. When Dominic moved into Severe Dementia, he wouldn't shower. I had to have him involuntarily committed.

Yeah. That's what I'm figuring. I feel bad for the guy. His mom died, had to sell the home, his brother is barely around, and his sister-in-law sorta looks in periodically. I think the family just does not want to deal with him. But for sure, I think he needs someone to take care of him more closely.

I think it would be in your best interest to get an Elder Care Social Worker involved. The key phrase is "danger to himself and others".

Because he's either going to die in the apartment and you'll have that mess to deal with, or he'll pass out cooking and set the place on fire. Either way, you're the property manager, and it's in your best interest not to have either happen.

You're reading my mind. I am going to call the sister-in-law this week. He actually almost burned the place down the first week he moved in. He was preheating the oven and forgot that he was storing a plastic container in the oven. Oy! The smell of burning plastic=not pretty! Ruined the oven :(

The sister-in-law may not be as much help as you need, so let me run North Carolina's procedure by you.

I had to go to the magistrate and explain why I thought Dominic was a danger to himself and others. the magistrate agreed and some nice policeman showed up, convinced Dominic to go with them. Dominic got a psych eval and was placed in a nursing home. Done.

Things may be different in California, which is why you need to speak to someone in the local Department of Social Services. The sister-in-law may not know what to do, or not have the resources to do anything and do nothing.

Poor man, can´t only agree with grizzlyzone what he said, I think that would be the best for this man and for you too.

But nice to hear that all the guys was hot. At least you had something hot to look at what was much better than the bad smell.
