1. Friday was a very slow day at work. We had finished our annual apt inspections on Thursday, so today was chill day at work.
2. Since Halloween is on Wednesday, it's the weekend before that "Gay Halloween" really begins. Wednesday, unlike in the 80's, is not the night to be in the Castro. Packed, crowded with gawkers from all over the area make it uncomfortable and at times not too safe.
3. Friend Will, from Dana Point, asked to join out group Saturday, to hang out and view the since that he had never been to before. Plus seeing us getting ready is a first for him too. So he flew in Friday afternoon. He wanted to go out for a bit in the Castro. So we hit the usual spots. Went to dinner, then home early for the big prep day. Before sleep though I had to shave from the waist up, and my face completely. That seemed to
take forever!
4. He did not want to make a big thing of Halloween gear, so he decided to bring up his Hippy costume (easy to pack). We, our group however had to be at Tom and Lee's home by 3 pm, to meet Tilly and his two assistants for the big make over of 6 men.
5. Each of us had our faces applied with foundation, wax, eyeliner. The works! Mark arrived about 5 pm with our hats he made. Each hat representing a district or area of San Francisco. Some with LED lights! He also brought over lots of Pizza.
6. Makeup on, pantyhose, birdseed, bras, and wigs..... we were ready to hit the Castro
7. I decided to wear the high boots. Within an hour my feet, the balls of my feet were killing me. Especially walking down the hill from 20th and Diamond. Will was my help or guide. Just a hand on his shoulder helped the walk tremendously. Once on flat ground, it was fairly easy. But the toes being pushed forward, and the hard inner bottom slowly added more pain as the night went on. My foot got so tired it gave out only twice on my way out of 440. Thank God for the tree in front. It saved me! LOL. And my toe got hooked onto the stair lip of Lookout. I almost fell down the stairs. OY!
8. But all in all the pain for all of us was worth it. Constantly being reminded of our high headpieces, especially me, being 4-5 inches taller, it was a constant stooping over to get though a doorway, or under a sidewalk tree limb. But being tall was nice. You can see over the crowd!
9. The Edge, Sun, Moby's, Mix, Lookout was the night's tour. The walk took forever. Not because of our heels but we were stopped every foot or so for photos from the tourists, and locals alike. Pictures with them, their kids, with friends etc...We were a hit!
10. We had our few drinks, with straws. We really could not drink too much due to the time constraint of getting to the next place in a timely manner. Plus walking in heels is best when pacing our beverages.
11. We ended up at the 440. Later on our gang got separated from the 440 to the Lookout. Will and a friend of his guided me down Market street to Lookout, where I was suppose to meet Mark, Lee and Ho (Tom and Carlos had already gone home). So after 20 minutes of waiting in line, getting to the bar, I come to find out they were not there. Will and his friend went on their way together. So I sat at the bar, enjoying watching the crowd, and managed to go to the bathroom with gaff, pantyhose and all. That was a relief! The Lookout was packed. Met a very cute barback. And also had a nice talk with Green Lantern, with a body one would die for. His costume was on so tight, it looked like it was painted on. YUM.
12. After a long night, and close to last call, it was time to head back to Tom and Lees to get out of the gear and get some sleep. I knew with feet tired and sore, I would not make it down the stairs, or walking down the street. And getting a cab at this point would be impossible. So I took off the shoes, and walked back. It felt so good to be flat footed. Even stepping on a stone paled to nothing considering how my feet felt by the end of the evening. On my way I passed several men on the sidewalk urinating on cars and bushes. With my LED light on my hat, I asked some if anyone needed a light. They thought funny. Finally at the home, and makeup off, it was off to the guest room to sleep.
13. In the morning, Tom, Lee and I met up with Will and went for breakfast. Then after it was home to shower. Then back to the city later at 5, to watch the Giants win the World Series. Yahoooooooo! It was in incredible game. I missed the winning part on TV for I was back on the road to home. But did catch the highlights later.
14. Today a slow day at work, and a bit beat. My dress shoes are a bit sore. Wonder why?
