April 14th: Special HeartBeat for Japan at Deco Lounge 6 - 8:30pm

We've seen the unbelievable newsclips. We've heard the heartbreaking rising numbers of dead and missing in Japan. While Japan is relatively rich, they've been hit with the 5th biggest earthquake, a huge, devastating tsunami and fires, hunger, devastation and the threat of nuclear meltdown.
No nation is prepared for ...this much . And it's up to all of us to show omoiyari (compassion) to our brothers and sisters of Japan.

Through the efforts of Rainbow World Fund, we will send our much-needed dollars to get food, water and help with rebuilding housing in the areas most needed in Japan. And we will show what the compassion of the LGBT people and our allies is capable of.

There are three different dates, three different venues and three different opportunities to show a hand of support to the many, many people hit so hard in Japan.

And if you can't make it..
Donate online at http://www.rainbowfund.org/index.html
To make a donation to help the survivors please specify "Japan" when donating. Rainbow World Fund is volunteer run so 100% of money raised will go to aide..

1. Friday it was the usual outing to SF. The start of the evening of course catching up with folks at the Midnight Sun. Then 440. Chatting with [livejournal.com profile] dendren was a pleasure as always.
2. We did not stay at 440 too long. We tried to avoid bartender Brad. I know he flirts with the patrons for more business (he is cute and good at it). But for some odd reason, he tends to be a bit too friendly with Jim and I. Ending up giving us free shots and drinks. We then get in too much trouble :)
3. Saturday I was in the spring cleaning mood. I spent hours cleaning my apt from top to bottom. The last thing on the list left are the windows. Will wait till the rains are over for that one.
4. Later on it was off to the Lone Star for Cody and Jack's GrungeStar 2 event benefiting The Lazy Bear Fund. Had a great time. JB (Mr Hayes Valley Leather) was the raffle ticket seller. All he was wearing was a Jock Strap. This bearish man. with a sexy smile, has incredible thighs and furry butt (he does his squats at the gym!)! His expertise in selling "inseam tickets" had many rising to attention (think I have a crush? Woof! :)
5. Sunday I made it to the gym (chest and biceps). Since it was raining, the Eagle was dropped for the St Patrick's Fundraiser for Tenderloin Tessie's at Marlena's. Entertainment and the best Corned Beef and Cabbage I have had in a long time. YUM! Apparently the Eagle always celebrates St. Paddy's day on the exact day. And apparently the Corned beef served there is suppose to be the best! I might try it!
6. Later it was off to 440 for Scuff Sunday. Packed, and of course beefy bears everywhere!!!!
7. Home early, and in bed by 11pm. Was hard getting up early! This time change is for the birds! It was so dark this morning at wake up time!

While watching the terrifying news of Japan, on CNN, Anderson Cooper 360, I was almost in tears watching the devastation. Just before commercial, they were talking about some Americans living in Japan, and of loved ones back home who are worried, and wanting know of their safety. That they had found a teacher by the name of Paul, and were going to reunite him with his parents in the US via voice communication.
So Anderson comes back on and introduces us to Paul, the young teacher in Japan, and they talk with he and his parents. Chatting back and fourth. They go to commercial. Then after commercial break, Anderson basically says that his parents Peter and Mary are on the line, and reunited with Paul again.

I burst out laughing, saying to myself, "What? Peter, Paul, and Mary had reunited again?" LOL
(the folk singing group of the 60's that is). It hit me in a funny way. Then I thought... did his parents name him Paul, because of the folk group? Peter Paul and Mary are coming for dinner tonight! Oy!

Sometimes laughter can be the best medicine, under stress. Even if it seems to be at the wrong time.
