iMac question

cellboyI am too lazy to look this up, but if I put in a CD in iTunes, how can I download a specific song to post, or send. I tried to change the preferences "Encoder" from AAC to AIFF to save to Quicktime player, but it didn't work. Or was that the wrong step. Or can this not be done?
