I just stumbled onto this via Google. I was so thin and young then (L). I ran twice. Once for Daddy's Leather 2004, and placed first runner up, then for Hayes Valley Leather 2005. First runner up again I decided not to become Susan Lucci, so hung it up after that - LOL. However I may consider running for something next yr :). We'll see. It takes a lot of commitment and time no matter what. I felt at the time, that a title of some sort, would give me the extra incentive to do something for our community. It can open up doors. But I also realized that, one does not have to have any title to do something worthwhile for others. There are so many I know of that do so much more to help others with no tile etc....
I just sometimes ask myself, what can I do to make a difference. Leave some sort of legacy. But the important thing is to do it not to leave a legacy of one's self, but to just do it because you want to. With no expectations of applause. Just do it from the heart. I don't want to grow old, and feel that all I did was take from this world, without at least giving something back. I know I will find my niche.

Glad to hear of your wanting to give something back, leaving a legacy. It appeals to me on two counts: 1) as a professional fund raiser; 2) as a gay leatherman who doesn't see the substantive attraction of attaining a title. Oh, I get the pagentry of it, and can certainly appreciate the 'swimsuit' portion of the competition (i.e. "I'm a marketing major and I hope the world discovers world peace" lol) as much as the next guy, but none of those things is why I decided a few years ago to join a leather social group here in Boston.

As someone who's sexual appetite includes, but is certainly not limited to, leather, kink, b/d, s/m, and roleplay, I know that there are all sorts of wonderful and creative permutations to our collective likes and fetishes. I thought by joining a club whose main interest by description is sociability (read: non-playing group), I would get to know a lot of other gay men whose own sexual proclivities would be shared with me, either in confidence or otherwise, and vice-versa. That has happened somewhat and it's been delightful, but not to the extent that I had hoped.

Additionally, it seems that the club has more than it's share of titleholders in consecutive years. I understand that for those seeking a title it's something they that may or may not have aspired to and is a significant part of their experience in the leather community. Some titleholders have used their sway to do wonderful work supporting affilliated organizations and the like. KUDOS to them! However, there is that other contingent of titleholders, whose interests seem not as philanthropic but more self-aggrandizing. I can understand that too, and maybe if there were less titleholders overall in one club, it would not even have caught my attention.

I guess even as I write this, my experience of this group continues to evolve, even in retrospect. I haven't officially quit or resigned from the club, and hope that it does become a larger group to inspire larger and more diverse interests. I may seek to become active again in it, who knows...?

I guess I've gone off on a bit of a tangent here, but I think you may be able to see my point regarding your post. From the short time I've been reading your posts, you don't seem to be the type of guy who's 'asleep at the switch'. So I'm sure you'll find your own ways of giving back, or leaving the legacy you feel appropriate. I hope you'll continue to post about it, too. -- Good Luck!!

Hummm. We will certainly have to meet sometime ;). As for titles, there are also those, for some unexplicable reason, that are just title whores, or sash queens. They just have to have a sash. Have a title to everything.
