Bridge needs paint

Last week, while driving north over the Golden Gate Bridge, I noticed it is in terrible need of new paint. It's looking rusty and mossy. What's up with that? I have never seen it that bad in years. So is that why bridge tolls are going up?

The story I heard is that they never stop painting the bridge. As soon as they get done, they go to the other end and start over!

I have always been told that too. In fact most times one sees painting scaffolding on pulleys. Well if that were the case, they need to speed it up.
