Be sure to look at your detailed checking account statements!!!! Scam and Fraud!! Especially this busy holiday season!
About 2 months ago a message was left on my home voice mail from Wells Fargo Bank saying there maybe some problem with...
my card, possible fraud and to call them. I never return a call like that from the number left. So I called the toll free number on the back of my debit card. They said it was not them, and the number does not belong to Wells Fargo. All was fine. Previously after I got back from New Orleans, the bank did call to be sure all was ok, due to my unusual card activity (I was on vacation, traveling)
Then last week, before Thanksgiving, I get the same call. I again called the bank. They asked me if I had charged a $2.50 that week. Also an amount of $39.50 was also denied (I did go to the store and make a mistake on my PIN, so maybe that was it). As for the $2.50 I did not. I told them to let me continue with this card for a week and see what happens.
Then last night I was on line reading each charge made, and noticed 2 charges, one again for $2.50, and a new charge $1. So I went to the bank to check on it, closed the debit card, and order a new one, with a new #.
Apparently the WF agent told me by looking at the account number and the name, and the GB indicating the service is in Great Britain. And is scam. Even though it is only a total of $5 charge, this could of escalated to $50, $100, or more! The bank is crediting me the $5 lost. Here is the company name that was on my bank statement. They are scamming lots of people!
