1. Last Friday, being that the weather was cold, and that I was now finishing up on my cold and cough, I decided to remain home. Cook some chicken cacciatorie, and chill.
2. Mind you, I know many of you are freezing where you live, but give us a clear sky night, with night temps in the high 30's, it can be bone chilling. So out in the evening air just does not cut it.
3. I made Saturday laundry day. And gym day. Lee and I met up mid morning, did our stuff. Chatted with people we knew on the way out. I decided to nix my favorite local gym on weekend mornings for it's too cold. They don't have heat. And they have 3 treadmills down. Forever! In fact I am trying to get to the SF gym more this week because of it. I did go last Thursday and shocked to see how packed it was. Too much waiting! But about an hour later, it thinned out substantially, just when I'm already finished. Plus talk about intimidating. Packed with studs. More eye candy than a Chippendale review! Yum!!!
4. Saturday afternoon, later met Ho, Mark, Lee and Tom at 440 for some late afternoon drinks, and watch the SF 49'er game. We were going to go to the new sports bar, It's Tops, but after hearing it was packed to rafters, we decided to stay put. Good thing! I met a few new people (wink), and then a few new people (wink). So the afternoon dragged on into the early dinner hour. So it was time to get home, and rest up for the big day, bowling!!!
5. Slept in Sunday, cleaned house a bit, then drove up the hill to this huge bowling alley were the
Boys with Balls charity event was being held. This place is huge! Over 60 lanes. The event was packed! With over 250 men!
6. The bowling alley was closed to the public that day, so that made playing with balls even more fun. Pitchers of beer were sold. With our group of 7, that's a lot of pitchers. DJ Matt Consola was the DJ, and during break time, Mark and BWB's organiser Mario, opened up a short show with men flagging, then Rachela singing a few dance tunes in the middle of one of the alleys. Later each alley got 3 boxes of large pizzas for eats.
8. It was really fun. I bowled lowsy. Course, its only been 25 yrs since. But as the afternoon aged, I got better. Mark won the first game. Carlos won the second! By mid game time, most alley players were happy on beer, and shirts were off (we took our shirts off too). I walked some of the other alley areas were some were wearing leather. Others, it seemed wearing the least possible. Good thing the alley was closed to the public!
9. In spite of the somewhat scantly dressed men, the staff, the bar staff (I'm guessing mostly straight), were cordial, tolerant, and just plain nice.
10. One of the guys I met at 440 on Saturday were also there playing. His best friend, was overly dressed with just a T-shirt and jock strap. LOL
11. Boys with Balls raised over $4500, for their charities, Castro Country Club (an AA group), and the GLBT History Museum. Both good causes
12. The SF crowd had arrived to the bowling alley via charter busses. Me, living close by, it was an easy 2 mile drive, up and back.
13. Home by 7 pm, and thrilled to of done this, I hope they do this again next year. It was fun!!!!
14. Friend Patrick may of started the spreading of cold and flu thing on New Years day. I had a mild cold this time with some lung congestion, which it seemed took forever to drain and clear. Lee and Tom, got it. Now Carlos has bronchitis. He was sick Sunday at bowling. OY. I hope all of us didn't catch it. But we were pretty careful to guard our beer cups. I think. The wave of flu out east is now beginning to hit California
