SF EAGLE - 30th Anniversary
Feb. 24th, 2011 07:28 pm1. I first went to the Eagle in 1984. It was different then.
2. Friday and Saturday evenings were packed with men in Leather. Today anything goes. At that time, you would not be caught dead, without wearing leather in most SOMA bars (However does anyone remember the man that stood in the patio, with black scuba gear on? He would walk from bar to bar flippers and all! LOL!)
3. At the Beer Busts the employees walked around the bar and patio, serving each individual beer out of the large pitchers.
4. The beer hasn't seemed to of changed. Still not that great. But you were there for the company of friends.
5. I remember seeing wonderful entertainment on a Sunday afternoon. Gail Wilson and City Swing. The Gay Men's Chorus. PepperSpray. And even Connie Francis!
6. I befriended many during these years. Some still here. Some have moved, or have passed.
7. The Eagle was the usual initial start off point for me and many of my friends on an evening out.
8. The order of the Friday or Saturday night "SOMA Walk", would be something like this:
The SF Eagle.
The Brig (Powerhouse)
My Place(The Ramrod)
The Watering Hole
The Stud
The Brig
Bar closing time.... Well then it's off to Ringold Alley! LOL! Men in full leather lined up on the corner of Ninth and Ringold .... as traffic drove by. And yes, Mr Scuba Man too! LOL
Sundays were a bit more tame. Beginning in the afternoon:
SF Eagle Beer Bust
Then end the evening at
The I-Beam
HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY SF EAGLE!!!
