I was brought up with the mindset that people who ate certain things and said things in certain ways weren't "right" and should be shunned.

Over time, I learned to realize that these differences weren't all that important, that certain foodstuffs weren't inherently "evil", and that pronounciations were merely regional variants.

So, that's why I commented earlier like I did.

Exactly. Growing up in a bilingual family, we were pretty much aware and respectful of ones differences. I actually find regional differences/variants intriguing.
